The Truth About Leklai –
A Thai Mystery
Historical texts
actually document the procedure
by which an individual can find
leklai. Without giving too much
detail, it is said that leklai
can be found in clean caves,
free from bat droppings or other
animals. The temperature is cool
and refreshing and the area is
usually desolated.
Some of the
following ceremonial details are
not documented in any reference
books and are generally only
known to monks who have studied
and practiced this art for
decades…. consider this
privileged information:
Finding leklai
One can ask for guidance from an
experienced hunter or roaming
monk. Or one can practise
meditation until gaining the
insight of the habitat of
lek-lai. Or one can use a medium
to guide the way to the hidden
place of lek-lai. When a
discovery is made, the ritual of
cutting lek-lai must be held by
a guru with a complete set of
necessary equipment.
Ceremonial

After
the monk has established
the area in which Leklai
is believed to be
present, he will be
required to prepare a
ceremony for cutting
Leklai.
The ceremony involves
praying to the spirit of
the jungle, mountain,
cave or other god that
protects the area. |
|

before being cut |
|
The full ceremony
is far too involved to detail
here, but essentially involves
the following:
First offerings
and prayers are given to ask
permission to remove the leklai.
The prayer used:
|
|
"Na-moh"
then "Sak-khen khum noom
teew-wa-daa" |
|
|
"Sab-pae
tham maa naa lung ah phi
ni way sa ya eh gaa ya
no, ah yung pik kha way
muk tha satta nung vi
soot ta yaa." |
Failure to honour
the promises made during that
ceremony may result in death. It
has also been said that during
the ceremony, an amulet or other
protective talisman should be
worn as protection from the
spirit residing in the leklai
which may try and disturb the
ceremony.
If the power of
the mind of the forest monk who
is performing the ceremony is
higher than the spirit that
resides / protects the Leklai,
then the Leklai will slowly melt
out from the rock. The monk may
use honey to lure the Leklai.
The Leklai will flows towards
the honey.
During this period the monk is
required to use Sai-Sin to
tighten the Leklai at the bottom
of the rock. This is to both
prevent the Leklai from
reversing back to rock and
general protection from spirits.
This part of the ceremony is
very involved an requires the
use of numerous staffs or sticks
cut from the surrounding jungle
inscribed with magical Khmer
incantations.
The "Sai-Sin" is
wound clock-wise around the
leklai and a prayer is
recited:-,
|
|
"Phut
thoo phut thang na gun
thang ah ra hung phut
thoo"
|
|
|
"Tham moh
tham mung na gun thang
ah ra hung tham moh"
|
|
|
"Sung koh
sang dhang na gun thang
sung koh" |
|
|
"Na
moh phut tha ta na ma pa
ta ya pa ga sa pha ma na
uh ga sa na thu put ta
gun na" |
|
|
"Tham
ma gun na sung ka gun na" |
|
|
"Ih
must sa ming mong kol
jak ga waan tung 8 thit,
phut ta prasit phen gum-peang-gaew
7 chan"
|
To protect the
whole area,
|
|
"Ih
rah khaa tha ra saa kaa
yaa duu lair rak saa
duay tham ma pra sit
sung kung pra sit" |
|
|
"Na moh
na mud gum jhad ork phai
sat-truu yaa glai sea
mah mon thon |
There is a
similar incantation which is
used when actually cutting the
leklai:
|
|
"Om sa
waa hoom maa ma ma na
rak kha jit thang phan
tha nung,
|
|
Na
rong hai moh kram-kruan,
pha yuu mai dai ka ork
maa waa phen kg
kaa-pha-jau. |
|
Na moh
phut tha ya thid sa ah
ra hung." |
| |
|

Leklai ceremony |
The Leklai is
cut, sometime using a knife or a
thread of hair from a virgin.
After cutting, the power of the
lekalai is invoked:
|
|
Saa thu

siang thai rer si thang

vi marn tii riak waa
Leklai [have to tell the
name and the category of
Leklai] |

In conclusion we can safely
assume from all the evidence
that leklai originates from
mother nature and is beneficial
to protect the owner from
danger.
Some individuals, when wearing
amulets created from leklai, may
experience an intensified
connection to higher domains and
ultimately sense an alignment of
energy fields.
